Academics and professors
An academic website that keeps up with your CV
What matters
What your website should do for you
A record that stays current
A new paper, a revised preprint or a conference talk should appear within days, not at the end of the semester when someone finally has time to log in to the old editor.
Different readers, different routes
Prospective graduate students look for supervision and projects. Journalists look for expertise and contact details. Committees look at the CV. Clear sections let each reader find their part quickly.
Independence from the department template
Institutional pages change when the university redesigns its site. A personal site at your own domain moves with you between institutions.
Readable on a phone
Many visitors arrive from a link in an email, a conference programme or a news story. Publication lists and abstracts should be comfortable to read on a small screen.
Pages your site could have
A starting point. We plan the final pages around your content.
- Home
- Who you are, current research focus and the two or three things you most want people to see
- Research
- Themes and current projects in plain language, with links to outputs
- Publications
- Filterable by year and type, with DOIs, preprint links and citations to copy
- Teaching
- Current and past courses, syllabi where you choose to publish them
- Talks and media
- Upcoming talks, recordings and press coverage
- Students
- Supervision interests and what prospective students should send you
- CV and contact
- A downloadable PDF CV and the contact routes you prefer
Features you can add
Structured publication list
Entries grouped by year and type, each with a DOI or link, so adding a paper is one short request.
Downloadable CV
A current PDF linked from every page, replaced whenever you send a new version.
Talks calendar
Upcoming and past talks, with recordings and slides where you have the rights to share them.
Publication search and filters Larger addition, quoted separately
Search across a long publication record by keyword, co-author or year.
Bibliography import Larger addition, quoted separately
Generate the publication list from a BibTeX or ORCID export you provide, reviewed before publishing.
In your own words
Changes you could ask for
Request 01
“Add my new paper in the Journal of Applied Ecology to the 2026 publications, with the DOI, and feature it on the home page this month.”
Request 02
“I am on sabbatical from January to June. Add a note to the Students page saying I am not taking new supervisees until September.”
Request 03
“Replace my CV with the attached PDF and update the "last updated" date.”
A fictional example
Moving from an old site
Before
A professor has a site on a hosted builder that a former graduate student set up. The publication list stopped at 2021 because nobody remembers how the custom list block works.
The move
We collect the existing pages and the current CV, rebuild the site on Replit with a structured publication list, and set up redirects from the old page addresses that matter, such as the publications page linked from the department site.
After
The professor either asks Replit Agent to add each new paper or forwards the reference to us under a management agreement. Either way the change is reviewed in a preview before it goes live.
What we will ask you for
- Current CV (PDF and an editable version if available)
- Biography in your preferred length, and a recent photo you have the right to use
- Publication list, ideally as BibTeX, an ORCID export or a reference-manager export
- Course list and any syllabi you want public
- Domain name you control, or a decision to register one
Works with tools you already use
- Links to ORCID, Google Scholar and institutional repository profiles
- Embedded recordings from YouTube or your institution's video service
- Links to an existing booking tool for office hours, if you use one
Questions
Common questions
My university already gives me a profile page. Why have a separate site?
Keep the profile page; it carries institutional authority. A personal site adds the depth a profile template usually cannot hold, such as full publication lists, project descriptions and talks, and it stays with you if you move institutions. Most academics link the two.
Can I use my university email and branding?
Check your institution's policy on personal websites and logo use. We can design the site without institutional marks and link to your official profile instead.
Do I need to learn anything technical to update it?
No coding is needed. After handover we show you how to describe a change to Replit Agent, check it in the preview and publish it. If you would rather not, we can make the updates for you under a separate management agreement.
