Security plugins

Fewer doors to guard, by design

Security plugins exist because a WordPress site has many parts that can be attacked: the login page, outdated plugins, themes and file permissions. A site rebuilt on Replit has no public login page, no plugin stack and far fewer moving parts, so most of what a security plugin guards against is simply not there.

What they typically handle

Typical security plugins add login protection, firewall rules, malware scanning, file-change alerts and activity logs to a WordPress site.

WordPress's own hardening guide stresses keeping WordPress up to date, because older versions are not maintained with security updates, and advises getting plugins and themes only from trusted sources.[1]

On a rebuilt site

No public admin login for page edits

Content changes are made in your Replit workspace through Replit Agent, not through a login page on the public site. If your site needs a private area, such as an editor dashboard, it uses an established sign-in provider.

Fewer third-party add-ons

Functions that would be plugins on WordPress are built into the site or handled by an established external service, so there are fewer separately maintained components.

HTTPS on your domain

When a custom domain is connected to a published Replit app, Replit provides and renews the TLS certificate, as long as the verification record stays in your DNS settings.

Packages kept up to date

Rebuilt sites use open-source packages. On sites we manage we review and update them; on client-managed sites you can ask Replit Agent to check for outdated or vulnerable packages.

What we ask you first

  • Which security plugin features do you rely on today?
  • Does the site have user accounts, payments or private areas?
  • Who has access to the hosting, domain and email accounts?
  • Has the site had a security incident before, and how was it handled?

Questions

Common questions

Is a site on Replit more secure than WordPress?

It has far less to attack: no public login page, no plugins and no theme files to exploit. Use strong passwords and two-factor sign-in on your accounts, keep packages updated (we do that on sites we manage), and the site stays in good shape.

Who handles security updates?

On a site we manage, we do, as part of the agreed scope. On a client-managed site, you can ask Replit Agent to check and update packages, or hand that work to us.
